This morning, Mr. Alfred Ayoub, Admissions Manager from the School of General Studies at Columbia University (New York) was generous to share his time and information with students from Greenville Technical College. It was the first time a representative from Columbia University had visited Greenville Technical College. He left brochures in the Honor's Lounge (first floor of the University Transfer building) for those of you who are interested in Columbia University but were unable to attend. The School of General Studies is for non-traditional students who have taken a break between high school and college. If you enrolled at Greenville Technical College directly out of high school, you can apply to Columbia College. You are not limited in your area of study; the school you apply to is an administrative distinction and determines whether you live in an apartment (Gen. Studies) or a dormitory (Columbia College). All students share the same prestigious faculty, can join student clubs, and have opportunities for research. Although tuition is ~$1,400/credit hour, the average Phi Theta Kappa scholarship is $8,000/semester and other financial aid loans and grants are available. Thanks again to Mr. Ayoub for an informative presentation regarding this terrific opportunity.
